Training and Competence

Our Training and Competence verifications assess the ability, knowledge, skills, and expertise that the organisation needs to ensure a safe and efficient operation. It reflects the capacity to effectively perform tasks in a safe way, solve problems, and achieve goals related to that area. Competence can be developed through education, training, experience, and ongoing learning.

Competence requirements required for the different positions must be described, and it must be maintained.

Important competence in QHSE must be maintained on board in the form of exercises and training and it must be documented.

  • Competence requirements: Competence requirements are normally described in a competence matrix.
  • Emergency training: Onboard training for the different emergency teams. Use of premade scenarios based on the actual unit and its equipment.
  • Equipment training: Training in use of rig specific equipment, like cranes, anchor winches, pipe handling equipment, hydraulic/electric work baskets etc.
  • Familiarization: Training/familiarization for new personnel coming onboard in use of rig specific equipment and systems.
  • Reporting and follow-up: All training shall be recorded and documented, and it shall be possible to trace individuals to measure compliance.
  • Performance requirements: Performance requirements related to equipment or the execution of operations must also be part of the training. Achievement of the performance requirements must be documented, and if they are not achieved, any compensatory measures must be implemented.
